Financial Assistance From The Assistance Fund Now Available for Eligible People Living With Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
ORLANDO, Fla., January 10, 2022 —The Assistance Fund, an independent charitable patient assistance organization that helps patients and families facing high medical out-of-pocket costs, today announced the launch of a new financial assistance program for people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The program is designed to help eligible individuals pay for their out-of-pocket medical costs for treatment, such as copayments, health insurance premiums, and incidental medical expenses related to the condition.
ALS is a neurodegenerative disease impacting more than 20,000 people and their families. The signs and symptoms of ALS are different for each person, making it difficult to diagnose.¹ ALS targets and kills motor neurons, leading to muscle weakness, an inability to speak, and paralysis. Some individuals experience difficulty walking or clumsiness; others experience cramps or inappropriate yawning. While there is no known cure, advancements in treatment slow the disease and improve patients’ quality of life.²
