Financial Assistance from The Assistance Fund Now Available for Eligible People Living with Long-Chain Fatty Acid Oxidation Disorders
ORLANDO, Fla., July 06, 2020 —The Assistance Fund, an independent charitable patient assistance organization that helps patients and families facing high medical out-of-pocket costs, today announced the launch of a new financial assistance program for people living with long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders (LC-FAODs). The program is designed to help eligible individuals pay for their out-of-pocket medical costs for treatment, such as copayments, health insurance premiums, and incidental medical expenses related to the condition.
Long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders are a group of autosomal recessive conditions that prevent the body from breaking down long-chain fatty acids into energy. Often beginning at birth, babies or infants with LC-FAODs are missing specific enzymes that break down fats in the body. Symptoms of LC-FAODs include muscle weakness, low blood sugar, and heart muscle complications. Individuals often require dietary restrictions and supplemental nutrition, along with early diagnosis.¹
