The Assistance Fund Opens New Program for Hypophosphatemia

Eligible patients can receive financial support for copayments, health insurance premiums and incidental medical expenses

ORLANDO, Fla., May 1, 2018 — The Assistance Fund, an independent charitable patient assistance foundation that helps patients and families facing high medical out-of-pocket costs, today launched a new program that offers financial support for individuals with hypophosphatemia. The fund will assist eligible patients in paying out-of-pocket medical costs incurred as a result of their condition.

“At The Assistance Fund, we are always working hard to expand our services to different patient populations. I am delighted to announce the opening of a new program at The Assistance Fund that supports individuals living with hypophosphatemia,” said Mark P. McGreevy, President and CEO, The Assistance Fund. “Many individuals living with hypophosphatemia follow a carefully monitored medication regimen and may face high medical expenses as a result, putting their families under financial strain. We are proud to offer this fund so that patients and their families don’t have to worry about how they will pay for their medical expenses.”

Hypophosphatemia is an abnormally low level of phosphate in the blood. A lack of phosphate can weaken bones and cause muscle damage, with severe hypophosphatemia potentially leading to complications such as challenges with breathing and heart function. Acute hypophosphatemia develops quickly, whereas chronic hypophosphatemia can develop over time. Other forms of hypophosphatemia have a genetic link.1
